Dear Kiwanians

As you know, in a few days time we will be starting our 8th month of this Kiwanis year, and to date we have only raised $5000 towards the target of $60.000 set by Governor Geoff and his Board of Trustees. May I take this opportunity to thank those clubs who have already committed themselves to the project and at the same time appeal to all other clubs to seriously think of those children who are suffering heart problems at this early age. It is hard to imagine what they have ahead of them to try and have a normal healthy life. They are having major heart surgery at very early ages and some of the children have the prospect of Heart Transplants later in their youth, some of course do not even survive these operations at all.

It is a pity all Kiwanians couldn’t have a walk around a Children's Hospital Ward and see these children, as I have at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. We, as Kiwanians, boast that we are "Serving the Children of the World", and what better way can we prove to the General Public and to the Parents of these children afflicted with these heart problems that we do care. Our main aim this year is to increase membership and the second is to adopt this Heartkids Project. Done correctly we could achieve both. Run functions for Heartkids, advertise it well, use the Poster that Governor Geoff has sent to you all. Obtain information from your State Heartkids Organisation, and have your local newspaper write it up with the name of being a Kiwanis Project. Appeal to the public for support by asking for volunteers to help at your projects.
The "Chance and Opportunity" is there - Accept the challenge.

Don't forget - MAY 7th is the start of Kiwanis Heartkids Week.

Help put "KIWANIS" on the map and into the minds of many people. This is going to be an Annual event, so prepare now. Please send me any ideas that your club thinks of and I will circulate them to all other clubs.

Come on Kiwanians - show that * KIWANIS DO CARE ABOUT CHILDREN.*

Yours sincerely,

TED KITTO
District Chairman - Heartkids.
